THE BRIEF (PRO BONO):

Find new Chair and Trustees for LandAid

LandAid is the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness across the UK. Founded in 1986, LandAid has worked with businesses and individuals across the sector for more than 30 years through a number of different fundraising routes including donations, pro bono support and sponsorship of events and initiatives.

After a successful three-year tenure as Chair of the LandAid board, Rob Bould decided to step down, paving the way for the new appointment. As a longstanding partner of LandAid, Granger Reis were appointed as the pro-bono executive search partner to identify Rob’s replacement.

In addition, several trustees (including founder Mike Slade) were also stepping down, and Granger Reis was also briefed to help fill these vacancies.

THE APPROACH:

Finding passionate advocates to drive strategic and community goals

With a deep knowledge and network throughout the UK Property sector, Granger Reis engaged with our network, seeking referrals and recommendations of high profile, impactful leaders with a passion to support a charity. This appointment commands zero salary, therefore only those with a genuine motivation to make an impact could be considered. We were seeking high profile leaders in the market and those who have the platform to promote LandAid via their Executive work, while also being able to contribute meaningful time to a role that carries such responsibility.

THE RESULT:

High-energy leader with hands on approach to making positive change

After a rigorous interview process, Neil Slater (CEO of Redevco and former Global Head of Real Estate & Global Head of Real Assets, abrdn) was appointed as the new Chair in March 2022. A high-profile, high-energy property leader, Neil has adopted a hands on and highly visible approach in the market to leading LandAid and its growth and evolution. He is passionate about supporting the LandAid Executives to deliver the current three-year strategy, and is already throwing himself tirelessly into work with the wider property sector to deliver their ESG pledges, specifically the social aspect.

Gemma Kataky (MD of the Blackstone Group), and Damian Wild (MD of ING) two highly regarded and progressive leaders in property, were also successfully placed into Trustee positions.

"We were so excited to welcome Neil to the role of Chair of Trustees for LandAid. He’s built on the great work that Rob did and is already bringing fresh ideas for social investment together with valuable experience from his work at abrdn to help LandAid deliver our new 3-year strategy.

It is one of several changes and, with the exciting addition of Gemma Kataky of Blackstone and Damian Wild of ING, I’m confident our refreshed Board will be stronger than ever”.

Our heartfelt thanks to Jamie Griffiths-Mead and the great team at Granger Reis, who undertook the executive search for our new Chair".
