The Brief:

Find visionary MD to support Canadian growth for Multiplex

Multiplex in Canada was established in Toronto in 2011. As an expanding multinational, the construction firm faced the usual growing pains of regional expansion. This was impacting the natural evolution of leadership and organisational design. With the Greater Toronto Area experiencing exponential growth, Multiplex required a Canadian business leader with credibility, stability and operational prowess. They also needed to be able to create a cohesive unit with a shared vision and mission.

The Approach:

Identify high-performing local talent while retaining anonymity

Multiplex is recognised as an innovative, boutique tall buildings specialist, which are typically located in ‘downtown' areas. With only four general contractors in the Greater Toronto Area that serviced the market, our strategy was to map and identify the high-performing talent in each of these organisations. In securing one of these individuals this would also have the benefit of attracting other talent. By using our extensive networks, we confidentially engaged long-tenured professionals across a wide range of organisations to measure capability, motivation and fit, while providing Multiplex anonymity.

The Result:

A perfect balance of technical, commercial & renewable expertise

Granger Reis secured Terry Olynyk who came with a major track record in field and management roles ranging from District Building Systems Manager, Senior Construction Manager to Director Business Development. Prior to appointment, Terry spent two decades with Canadian general contractor PCL Construction where he led and successfully grew specialist businesses in off-site manufacturing and renewable energy. He also led business development efforts for PCL in Toronto.

“Building on what I learnt in my 21 years at PCL, I am dedicated to enhancing our clients' experience with Multiplex. Our company culture prioritizes out-performance and we will continue to uphold this as we expand."
